Holiday Robotics Tech Camps

In this camp students will build a customisable, programmable robot with the LEGO Mindstorms kit, which contains the following:

  • Brick computer for controlling the robot
  • Icon-based programmable interface
  • LEGO parts for building the system
  • Sensors
  • Motors

LEGO MINDSTORMS’ programming is command box programming, rather than code programming.  Through the icon based programmable interface, students will be introduced to the concepts of coding such as looping, decision making and flow control in a fun and interactive way.

Today many schools are introducing the Mindstorm EV3 kits into their curriculum across the USA, and now schools across the UK and Europe are taking an active interest too. Education providers are recognising that using Mindstorm kits can help children gain an awareness of the close relationship between software and hardware and how the manipulation of one has a strong impact on the other. This understanding is essential for the successful development of intelligent products.

The three dimensional aspect of actually building with real materials is a very engaging way of nurturing children’s natural creativity and curiosity. The Summer Tech Camp provides an environment where students can become completely absorbed in their work, and will take their understanding of science, engineering and mathematics to a much deeper level.

  • Why we like to teach Robotics with LEGO Mindstorms

    At our Holiday Code Camp we like to give our students some real-life hands-on technology and science experience. By building robots and working with LEGO Mindstorms System, students as young as 9 gain an understanding of the close relationship between software and hardware. Teaching these skills will enable future generations to move forward with the development of intelligent design products.

    By giving our students the opportunity to discover how to engineer their own robots, we are enabling them to use their own creativity and problem solving skills.

  • The Origins of the Project

    The original project was devised to enable more students to pursue advanced Computer Science and  Technology subjects, as well as those with a deep interest in Engineering and Mathematics. The resulting technology has proven to be so successful that many schools are now introducing the Mindstorm EV3 kits into their curriculum across the USA, UK and Europe.

    The LEGO Mindstorms Robotic System is an established component of the education at many universities and schools in the United States and Europe. Faculties of electronic and electrical engineering and computing, in particular, commonly use LEGO Mindstorms.

    LEGO fans will be delighted to know that the system they build can be extended and integrated with the the traditional LEGO bricks!
